Ghazal Majidi is a Tehran-born, Vancouver-based new media artist and filmmaker working across 3D animation and film, interactive installation, video games, and XR. Majidi's multimedia works often engage personal, collective, and political histories, examining subjects like displacement, liminality, and digital surveillance.
Her films often unfold through improvisational and non-linear storytelling, bridging stream-of-consciousness writing with virtual world-building. Working with game engines as both a production environment and cinematic device, Majidi explores the instability of memory and the ways images can shift between the intimate, the imagined, and the estranged.
Her more recent interactive works extend these concerns into questions of information access, mediated violence, representation, and collective memory. Working with archival materials, embodied interfaces, and computational systems, she examines how images and information are circulated, filtered, and controlled, turning these often invisible processes into tangible encounters.
Majidi’s work has been presented internationally at MUTEK Montréal, Currents New Media Festival, Vienna Shorts, Brussels Independent Film Festival, MONSTRA Lisbon Animation Festival, Künstlerhaus Bethanien Berlin, MUTEK AE, and Waking Life Festival. She holds a BA in Architectural Engineering and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Simon Fraser University.
